[About the Book]
Why do people feel the urge to go far away?
Perhaps it is not simply to visit famous destinations or to change scenery, but to take a fresh look at their own lives.
This book is a record of one Japanese traveler’s journeys through cities around the world.
With a focus on the United States, and including Canada, Mexico, and Peru, the author recounts episodes from each place. Yet this is more than a simple travelogue. It is a chronicle of walking, losing one’s way, pausing, and moving forward again—much like a condensed portrait of life itself.
Work, family, aging, and social change—at each turning point in life, the author set out on another journey. By walking through cities, meeting people, and encountering history and nature, he quietly reflects on questions such as, “How have I lived my life?” and “How do I want to live from here on?”
For those who feel the desire to walk the world once more, or to view their present selves from a little distance, this book offers the romance and quiet inspiration of travel.
