[About the Book]
“Where did humanity come from, and where are we headed?” — Darwin continues to answer that question even today.
Evolution is not merely the history of how life forms have changed their shapes.
It is a story that concerns the very essence of being human — why we think, love, believe, and waver.
Written by the Honorary Professor of Matsuyama University, this book begins with Darwin’s theory of evolution and expands its inquiry into the realms of human sexuality, cognition, ethics, and religion.
What separates animals from humans? Where did good and evil originate? How have morality and faith evolved to shape who we are today?
By reinterpreting Darwin’s thought in the context of modern science, philosophy, and the ongoing debates on religion, the author explores the enduring question of what it means to be human.
More than a history of science, this is a profound philosophical exploration of humanity through the lens of evolution.
Through Darwin’s eyes, we begin to see ourselves — as living beings still in the process of evolution.
Recommended for readers who:
・Wish to gain a deeper understanding of Darwin’s ideas and the essence of evolutionary theory
・Are interested in exploring ethics, religion, and the human mind through both science and philosophy
・Seek to confront the timeless question: What does it mean to be human?
