After all, Kyonosuke and his friends are a generation that is one step behind in everything. The government passed the Japan-US Security Treaty in 1960, and the school dispute for university reform had already ended. The remnants were still smoldering around the campus, but the storm of reform lurked in the shadow. The helmet was thrown into the courtyard corner and struck by the rain, smeared with dust. Everything has retreated into the horizon and will eventually disappear—it's a feeling of breakdown and helplessness.

Everyone was stuck in the boarding house because of a university's message that they couldn't attend school. Kyonosuke was eager to do something, but in the end, he didn't know what to do, so he indulged himself in mahjong and sake. He had learned those indulgences before and began to hop bars at night with the money he earned from his part-time job.

He couldn't even respond to a girl he had a crush on, then she would become someone distanced or would cut her off himself, for he couldn't endure such a feeling. Then, eventually, he began to forget what it means to love someone.
