[About the Book]
—The Life Story of a Woman Who Endured Postwar Japan—
During her student years, the war prevented her from studying as she had wished. After entering the workforce, she strongly felt the struggles of living as a “woman” in society. Still, she persevered and gave her very best at every stage of her life.
She recalls the day a bomb fell on her home during the war, and she survived by a miracle. She remembers the period after the war when she worked at city hall by day and attended night school in high school to support her family. She remembers the day she gave up her dream of entering university, unable to push back against the voices around her saying, “It’s pointless for women to study.” She remembers the days she fought as a member of the women’s division, striving to correct gender inequality and improve women’s status.
This is the record of one woman’s life who lived through Shōwa—a period often described as one of the most turbulent eras in Japanese history, marked by World War II, postwar reconstruction, and rapid economic growth.

[Editor’s Comment]
You can learn “history” from textbooks and reference works, but isn’t true history found in the lives of individuals who actually lived through those times? In that sense, this book reveals the real history of Japan in the Shōwa era.
